IDW Sketch Cover Madness: My Little Pony! (Finally)
I guess that makes the graphic above an Online Exclusive. Hadn’t thought about it.
So, what’s the story with the above, huh?
Glad you asked.
First off, my friend and I are mental for My Little Pony. We have been patiently, patiently waiting for a “draw on it” sketch variant from IDW. Finally, as a surprise to me, it came on Wednesday. I got one for me, and one for my friend.
Then, I had no idea what to draw. None at all.
After seeing Thor: The Dark World, she had resolved that she needed to get a Loki Minimate, for her web site, Superheroes and Ponies. You should click that link, by the way, it’s hilarious. She went online, and ordered a movie style Loki, who comes with Odin, and was very happy.
When Loki arrived, he was battle damaged. He wasn’t supposed to be battle damaged, it was more some sort of factory defect that resulted in damage when someone tried to make it work anyway. His helmet was messed up, and his head smooshed a bit as a result. She was advised to return him.
This resulted in horror from my friend. She sat down, presumably with the tools she uses to make jewelry, and fixed him up. “After all, this is my Loki…I’m responsible for him.” Now that he’s fixed, and that she had to do it herself, she says, “it only makes me like him more.”
After a few moments of thought, I knew what to draw on her cover.
In the art, you see exactly what you think. A ponified Loki, my friend drawn Equestria Style, the Rainbow Bridge of Asgard, Asgard, and stars with other cosmic looking stuff in space. They are friends, presumably because Ponified Loki got fixed up similarly to Minimate Loki.
I’m looking forward to handing her the comic book with the original pencils on the cover tomorrow…or more accurately, on the date that this posts. The look on her face should be priceless.
Massive upside? I have another blank cover, so I can do this again, probably this week. You want positive…? Ponies. That’s why they both start with “P.”
As bonus posts and sketch covers go, this was fun to draw. Immensely. Believe it or not, the Rainbow Bridge? HUGE hassle! Huge. I may color the image (I made copies), just to justify the hassle that bridge was.
This is going to be the only Adequacy image that I don’t have the original art to, in a big set of files upstairs. So besides the Online Exclusive Version, it is doubly unique.
