The Search Continues…!
My co-teacher and I have another interview today. The interview is at a Magnet School in roughly the same area as the Pilot School we just met with. Good neighborhood, good students, serious effort at turnaround. All told, a goodness.
What’s a Magnet School? Glad you asked. First off, it is not a Charter School. Thanks to Fox, everyone knows that word, and wants to say it to me. Grrr…!
In education in the United States, magnet schools are public schools with specialized courses or curricula. “Magnet” refers to how the schools draw students from across the normal boundaries defined by authorities (usually school boards) as school zones that feed into certain schools. This is pretty much an outgrowth of the attempt to make education more racially equitable, and has generally been successful.
The school is better than our current school, and has several open position…seven to be exact. In addition, they have a STEAM curriculum…Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. That’s pretty much the new way, and very interesting to us in terms of project based learning. We were hoping our current school would go that way, but the STEAM effort got lost in the shuffle.
Fingers crossed, True Believers. I have my fancy clothes ready.
