The Last Push To The Finish…

“I know it’s after Memorial Day….but War of the Spark is not bikini time, lady—!”

It’s the weekend, and this is mostly an experiment in postures, and different kinds of cross hatch shading. No giant subtext, not mega metaphor. That weird bat monster could just as easily represent one of the things toward the end of the school year that I have not yet done…or it could just be some kind of necromantic bat monster.

In old “sword and sorcery” comics, women just seemed to wear bikinis all the time as a matter of course, which seems pretty odd. If you lived in a world where dragons attacked regularly, evil wizards sacrifice attractive women to gain magic powers, and you really had to deal with a lot of “outdoorsy stuff” in general, wouldn’t you cover up more? I mean, I get it…the bikini women helped to sell the book in the time period that “sword and sorcery” of that type was a big thing. Still, you’d think that someone like Red Sonja would be more practical about it.

In the caption, Cap is suggesting that this is set on Ravnica, during “War of the Spark,” as a lot of the strip has been lately. Ravnica doesn’t really have that “bikini problem,” being much more inspired by Eastern Europe during the age of exploration and enlightenment. I’m not saying Cap is wrong, what I’m saying is that I didn’t feel like drawing a complicated outfit, and that is possibly the least practical woman in the dimension of Ravnica.

Anyway, it has been a nice, quiet weekend as things wind down. That’s kind of needed…it has been a pretty odd year.
